Radamel Falcao is expected to complete his loan move to Chelsea imminently before taking a three-week holiday after a difficult season ended in Friday's Copa America exit.

The 29-year-old will team up with Jose Mourinho's squad on July 19th, according to Colombian TV channel Caracol, as he breaks from football after defeat to Argentina in the Copa quarter-finals on Friday.

Talks over a season-long loan move for Monaco’s forward were at an advanced stage earlier in June and it is believed he is now on the brink of completing the deal, which will see him take a major pay cut and drop way beneath the £265,000 he earned at Old Trafford last year.

Falcao will join his new team-mates as they fly out to America for a pre-season tour, which will include fixtures against New York Red Bulls, PSG and Barcelona, before returning for the Community Shield against Arsenal in early August.

The Colombia international only managed to score one shootout penalty at the Copa America in Chile despite three starts and a 15-minute cameo in the quarter-final defeat.

It comes after a disappointing season-long loan spell at Old Trafford last season but Jose Mourinho believes the striker is ready to show the Premier League his true worth.

Speaking earlier this month, the Portuguese boss said: "It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United."
