Chelsea’s youngsters once again proved their prowess as the U19s side thumped Norwegian side Molde 10-1 in the Uefa Youth League on Wednesday.

Two time winners of the tournament, which has been running in the current format since 2013, and beaten finalists last season, Chelsea also became the top scorers in the competition’s history with the win, surpassing Real Madrid’s tally of 116 goals.

Billy Gimour and Daishawn Redan both bagged hat-tricks while Charlie Brown bagged a brace as George McEachran and an own goal from Thor Olav Moe saw the Blues hit double figures.

Anders Iversen pulled back a consolation goal for the visitors late with just under 20 minutes to go, preventing Chelsea from equalling the record of the biggest winning home margin in the competition, set when Real Madrid beat Apoel 10-1 last year.

The competition runs alongside the Champions League groups each season, but Chelsea can qualify via the domestic champions path after the senior team missed out on a top four spot in the Premier League last season.

They will face Molde in a second leg of the first round before facing the winner of Sweden’s Elfsborg and Iceland’s KR in the second round.
