Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is a target for Nice, the Ligue 1 side's president has confirmed.

The World Cup winner is out of contract at the end of the season, though Chelsea hold an option to extend for a further.

Giroud been able to talk to foreign clubs regarding a summer Bosman move since January and has told Chelsea he will not settle for a place on the bench after starting just seven league games this season.

Nice president Gauthier Ganaye hopes to bring Giroud to the club this summer but accepts any deal will prove expensive.

"[Giroud] is coming to the end of his contract, he is still performing well at his age. Why not, I will tell you that it is possible... [but] very expensive," he told Telefoot.

"With Gilles Grimandi and [manager] Patrick Vieira, we have defined the technical profile for the different positions that we are looking to strengthen.

"So, today, we know the four or five players that interest us in that position. I am not going to give you names though."
