Petr Cech is adamant he is not worried about Thibaut Courtois replacing him as Chelsea’s first choice keeper and is ready to fight for his place.
Cech kept his 150 clean sheet in the Premier League last night to help secure a 0-0 draw for Chelsea at title rivals Arsenal.
His long-term future has begun to come under question though because Courtois, who is currently on his third successive loan from Stamford Bridge at Atletico Madrid, is in line to be included in Chelsea’s squad under Jose Mourinho next season.
Courtois’ current contract runs out in 2016 and has told Chelsea he won’t sign an extension unless he is playing regularly for the club.
The Belgium international is rated as one of the best keepers in the world and at the age of 21, is 10 years younger than the club’s current No.1.
But when asked about the situation, Cech said: “It is the decision of the club, the only thing I can do is to perform as best as possible and convince the coach that I still deserve the position in the goal.
"I have been here for almost 10 years and there has been plenty of speculation on that. I can think of the names of at least 20 goalkeepers linked to the club in all that time.
“I'm used to it and not really worried because everyone is on the same starting line at the beginning of every summer.
"We will see in the summer. I don't feel any extra pressure. When the day comes when someone comes and is better than me, then it will happen.
“As I mentioned before, the speculation has been here all the time. I am just trying to do the same and won't change."
