Former Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright has urged Roy Hodgson to give Scott Dann a chance in the England set-up.

Dann scored the winner at Anfield on Sunday as Palace became the first side to beat Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp assumed the reins in October.

But it is his defensive performances at the heart of Alan Pardew's back four that have won him so many plaudits this season. The 28-year-old has partnered both Damien Delaney and Brede Hangeland this term, offsetting his composed, ball-playing ability with impressive reading of the game and hard-hitting challenges.

Hodgson was in attendance as Dann and his Palace team-mates kept Manchester United at bay at Selhurst Park last month, but the England manager's latest squad would suggest Dann hasn't played his way into international contention in time for Euro 2016.

But Wright believes the Palace man should be given a chance.

"He gets on and he's consistent," said the 52-year-old. "So he doesn't do anything too great and he doesn't do anything too badly.

"He's got good positional play. Have a look at him; what's the worst that can happen?"
