Monday’s FA Cup match between Dagenham & Redbridge and Salford was halted after players were alerted to a medical emergency in the crowd.

A 2,330 fans at Chigwell Construction Stadium turned out for the televised first-round clash between the Class of ‘92 owned League Two side and the National League Daggers.

But, with the hosts pushing for an equaliser late in the game, fans in one corner of the ground began calling out for medics to attend to a stricken supporter.

Players became alerted to the incident and referee David Rock halted the game for several minutes, before the fan was taken away on a stretcher by medics.

It is not clear what happened to the fan, who was seen being carried across the pitch without oxygen assistance.

The first responders who treated the supporter were praised by both clubs, with the incident following the recent collapse of a fan at Newcastle’s Premier League game against Tottenham.

Dagenham & Redbridge tweeted: “Well done to all of our stewards and medics for acting so quickly. The supporter in question has been taken away for further medical attention.”

Salford stated via their social media page: “Fantastic response from players and staff to get over and provide assistance, our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the supporter.”

Salford qualified for the second round courtesy of a third-minute Jordan Turnbull goal.
