David de Gea does not feature in Manchester United's official 2016 calendar, despite signing a contract that could keep him at the club until 2020.
The Spanish goalkeeper came close to joining Real Madrid on transfer deadline day only for the move to collapse at the 11th hour after the two clubs failed to submit the necessary paperwork on time.
Manager Louis van Gaal had previously refused to play the 24-year-old until his future was resolved and De Gea has now been restored to the team after agreeing a contract extension at Old Trafford last month.
However, although he has been welcomed back into the Red Devils' first team fold, De Gea's transfer saga saw him miss out on the chance to claim a place in United's calendar, which went to print while his future was uncertain.
“Marketing ran out of time. They were desperate to include De Gea but thought he might go. They could not risk having an ex-star on fans’ walls,” a source told the Mirror.
The collapse of De Gea's move was greeted warmly at United as the goalkeeper has become a fans' favourite at the Theatre of Dreams and has won both the fans' and players' Player of the Year award for the last two seasons.
The Spain international has kept one clean sheet in four Premier League appearances this season and was powerless to prevent United surrendering top spot after a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
