David Luiz was always going to flourish, says Lucas

Liverpool midfielder Lucas says he is not surprised by Brazil team-mate David Luiz's fine start at Chelsea.

Luiz has produced a number of top performances since joining the Blues in January from Benfica in a deal worth £25million.

Lucas believes the current crop of South American players in the Premier League are helping to dispel the myth that they are unable to adapt to English football, with 23-year-old defender Luiz having started so well.

"I've known David since I was maybe 19 years old and we used to play for the Under-20s together," he said. "I am not surprised [with his impact]. I am really, really happy with the way he has arrived because I know how difficult it is to adapt in the Premier League.

"But he is already scoring a lot of goals and maybe people were not expecting this. And they have been important goals as well so I am happy with the way he is playing."

Brazil face Scotland in an international friendly at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
