Few players have enjoyed the FA Cup as much as Didier Drogba and the prospect of a fifth winner’s medal is an exciting one for Chelsea’s Ivorian striker.

Drogba scored decisive goals in all four finals he played in between 2007 and 2012 and has a strong attachment to the world’s oldest cup competition.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s visit of Watford Drogba said: “When I think of the FA Cup I have these images of Di Matteo, Cantona, Anelka scoring in the final at the old Wembley. I always dreamed of playing at the old Wembley but I didn’t have the chance because they built the new one. I was lucky then to create some kind of history at the new stadium.”

The forward scored the first Cup final goal at the new Wembley in 2007, when his extra-time goal secured the trophy against Manchester United.

Since returning to Chelsea in the summer Drogba has mostly played second-fiddle to Diego Costa however Jose Mourinho said that he is likely to choose between one of the elder statesmen of the squad and French striker Loic Remy. The Championship visitors are in good form having won four of five in December, taking them up to fifth in the table.

Player Ratings: Tottenham v Chelsea

A busy Christmas schedule means Chelsea are likely to rotate and give starts to reserve players such as Petr Cech. But Drogba is not intending to take his foot off the gas as Chelsea chase four trophies at home and in Europe.

He said: “We always play to win. The more you win this competition the more you are connected to it. I think it’s been two-and-a-half years since we won it last so it would be good for us to go to Wembley again and win it but it’s a long journey ahead.”
