Sarina Wiegman says the pitch at Stadium:MK for England’s Arnold Clark opener was “horrible” and “unacceptable”.

The Lionesses beat South Korea 4-0 on Thursday night thanks to goals from Georgia Stanway, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo and Lauren James.

England looked sharp during the victory and dominated possession, but Wiegman was unhappy with the state of the pitch. It was cut up in several places and the ball did not roll smoothly, having earlier hosted Italy vs Belgium.

“It was a horrible pitch,” said Wiegman.

“I think that’s even harder to keep up the speed, sometimes the ball bounced on several occasions. So I think we did really well.

“It was at moments hard especially when they play so tight and then they have their block so deep, then you really want to speed up the game and at some moments that’s really hard.

“I think this pitch was unacceptable. We have to do [better]. This stadium is really nice, it’s a very nice to be in this stadium but this pitch, we can’t play on a pitch anymore, at this level. It’s just really unacceptable.”
