Raheem Sterling dropped to the bench as England prepared to face Estonia in their third European Championship qualifier on Sunday.

The Liverpool youngster was one of three changes from Thursday's 5-0 victory over San Marino. James Milner and Kieran Gibbs were also sacrificed as Adam Lallana, Fabian Delph and Leighton Baines were introduced to the starting XI.

The decision to rest Sterling follows comments from Hodgson in the wake of victory at Wembley in midweek. The England boss recognised his tricky forward was not up to sharpness and suggested he would 'manage the situation' to avoid burnout.

Hodgson said: "When he shows signs of not being quite as sharp, not doing as well, trying too hard, that might be the moment we think we have to manage this and give him a break."

England: Joe Hart, Calum Chambers, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Fabian Delph, Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere, Adam Lallana, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck
