Everton 4 West Ham 0: Hat-trick hero Wayne Rooney scores goal from the halfway line as Hammers pay penalty

Wayne Rooney was Everton's hero as David Unsworth signed off in style with a 4-0 win against West Ham on Wednesday night.

With Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park and set to take over as the Toffees' full-time manager, Unsworth oversaw a much-needed Premier League victory to ensure David Moyes had an unhappy return to Merseyside.

There was an element of fortune to Rooney's opener as the striker converted on the rebound after he saw his penalty saved by Joe Hart after 18 minutes, but there was no doubt about the second as he ghosted into the penalty area in trademark fashion to convert 10 minutes later.

Manuel Lanzini passed up the chance to score from the spot on the hour mark as Jordan Pickford made a fine penalty save, and Rooney saved the best for last as Joe Hart came way out of his box to clear the ball, only for the former Manchester United and England captain to drive it back over him from 70 yards for a stunning treble.

Ashley Williams added Everton's fourth as the Hammers were left to rue mistakes at both ends of the pitch as Moyes still searches for his first win at the club.
