‘Falcao will stay at Atletico this season’

Chelsea target Radamel Falcao will not be sold by Atletico Madrid in January, according to Paulo Futre.

The former Portugal and Atletico striker is a friend of Falcao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and says he has been reassured by him the Colombian will be staying.

Futre told Spanish newspaper Marca how the telephone conversation unfolded.

The former West Ham player asked: “Jorginho! How you doing brother? Tell me just one thing. Is it true that Falcao could be leaving Atletico in the January transfer window?”

The agent replied: “You’re mad Paulo, they’re just rumours. Radamel isn’t leaving Atletico. It’d be impossible for him to leave in January. Look, I’m eating dinner with him here in my house. Say hi to him, he’s one of your biggest admirers.”

With Fernando Torres failing to fire, Chelsea want to sign a striker in January and Falcao (above) is their top choice. Manchester City are also interested in the 26‑year-old, who has a £44million release clause in his contract.
