Footballer backtracks after thanking 'wife and girlfriend' in post-match interview

Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Anas could end up in hot water after thanking both his wife and girlfriend in a post-match interview.

The awkward gaffe came after the Free State Stars striker had helped his side secure a 2-2 draw against Ajax Cape Town.

Man of the match Anas rescued a point for the South African Premier Division side, scoring his second of the game with 15 minutes remaining to cap an impressive performance.

But things soon turned sour for the 22-year-old as he faced the cameras after the final whistle.

Blunder: Mohammed Anas

Instead of a customary nod to his team-mates, or a string of well-worn football cliches, Anas sent himself into a panic with an apparent slip of the tongue.

"I appreciate my fans also, my wife and my girlfriend..." he said.

"I mean my wife. Sorry for saying. I'm so sorry, my wife... I love you so much with all my heart!"

Before the interview came to a swift end with Anas clearly flustered, the footballer added: "You must keep supporting me, thanks for coming."
