Fran Kirby's vital away goal against Bayern Munich ensured Chelsea Ladies progressed to the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday evening.

Emma Hayes' side came into the second leg of their European tie with Bayern in Munich leading 1-0 thanks to Drew Spence's goal in the first leg last week.

And things seemed to be going to plan for the visitors when England international Kirby scored on the hour mark with a fine finish into the top left-hand corner of the net to give Chelsea a 2-0 aggregate lead.

But the hosts hit back with two goals to level the aggregate score at 2-2 - and set up a nervy end to the game.

But Chelsea Ladies held on to go through to the Champions League round of 16 despite suffering a 2-1 defeat on the night in the same city where the men's side enjoyed their greatest hour with their win in the European final in 2012.
