Antoine Griezmann's second-half double saw France come from behind to beat Germany 2-1 in Paris and push Joachim Low's side to the brink of a humiliating Uefa Nations League relegation.

The Atletico Madrid star struck twice after Toni Kroos' penalty had given the visitors an early lead, as Germany's nightmare 2018 continued.

Having rotated for the friendly draw against Iceland last week, France returned to the bulk of the side that started the World Cup final, with only the injured Samuel Umtiti missing, replaced by Presnel Kimpembe.

Low made five changes from the team that lost 3-0 against the Dutch on Saturday, with Leroy Sane and ex-Arsenal man Serge Gnabry brought into the line-up as the under-pressure boss looked for his first Nations League win.

They took the lead from the spot with less than a quarter of an hour played when Kimpembe was harshly adjudged to have handled Leroy Sane's cross from close range. Hugo Lloris got a hand to Kroos' side-foot penalty but the ball found the corner of the net.

Sane squandered a good chance to double the lead when over hitting a simple square pass to Timo Werner, who would have been in on goal, before Matthias Ginter scuffed an effort straight at Lloris from six yards.

France were below par in the first half, but improved after the break, and Manuel Neuer made an excellent one-on-one stop to deny Kylian Mbappe.

When the leveller did come it was sensational, Lucas Hernandez fizzing a cross at Griezmann, who adjusted superbly to direct a header past Neuer from 12 yards out.

He then struck again, this time from the penalty spot after Mats Hummels had brought down Blaise Matuidi.

The win puts France four points clear at the top of their Nations League group, though Netherlands have a game in hand.

Germany meanwhile, must beat the Dutch next month and hope other results go their way, if they are to avoid the drop.
