Frank Lampard insists John Terry will not tarnish his legacy at Chelsea if he plays for another Premier League side.

Terry is expected to leave the club he joined as a 14-year-old in 1995 at the end of the season once his current contract expires but is set to continue playing.

Lampard enjoyed a loan spell at Manchester City after 13 years with Chelsea before retiring and he believes Terry, who is thought to be considering offers from China and America, could follow suit.

He said: “It didn’t change the way I feel about Chelsea and I don’t think it changed the way they feel about me. I gave everything for the club and John certainly has.

“I know whatever he does, unless he signs for Tottenham, he’ll be a legend! He wouldn’t do that but he needs to make his decision now whether that is play in the Premier League, go abroad, go into management. It’s his decision and I think every Chelsea fan will respect that.”
