Frank Lampard may have spent one year playing for Chelsea's Premier League rivals Manchester City, but the midfielder is still very much a Blues man at heart.

The 37-year-old left Stamford Bridge as Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer after 13 seasons at the club last June before joining City for the 2014-15 campaign.

Lampard is now with MLS side, and City's sister club, New York City but on Tuesday the former England international gave Blues supporters hope he could one day return to Chelsea.

At a fan event in a New York bar, the midfielder told supporters singing "We want our Frankie back" that he would indeed be back.

"I'll be back," he responded to the fans while standing on stage.

Lampard later linked up with his former teammate, Chelsea captain John Terry, at the club's hotel in New York after Jose Mourinho's squad arrived in the city for their pre-season friendly against New York Red Bulls on Thursday.

In a photo posted on his official Instagram account, Lampard wrote: "Great to see my mates @johnterry.26 and Billy McColloch at the @chelseafc hotel.

"Brought back so many memories of all our away trips. All the best for the season lads. #chelseabulldogs".

While the midfielder is yet to make his debut for New York City because of a calf injury sustained during training earlier this month, his former side will take part in the International Champions Cup over the next two weeks.
