Derby County manager Frank Lampard will ask Chelsea’s permission to play Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori against them in their EFL Cup Fourth Round tie.

Both Chelsea youngsters have made a big impact since joining Derby on a season-long loan and helped beat Manchester United in the Third Round last week.

Derby’s reward is a trip to Stamford Bridge at the end of the month, but rules of the competition state that loaned players can’t play against their parent clubs unless agreement is reached beforehand.

Lampard, who will be facing former club Chelsea as a manager for the first time, said: “It is a conversation to be had and I think it is Chelsea-led because they are their players.

“I am pretty sure it will be Chelsea’s decision.

"I think everyone knows what my decision would be, so it will be up to them.”
