A plane carrying the German national team was forced into an emergency landing in Edinburgh as the squad travelled back from Iceland.
All on the flight are “fine” despite a replacement plane being required for the side to complete their return to Germany after a safety inspection, described as “precautionary”.
Germany were returning from Iceland having beaten the hosts 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Reykjavik on Wednesday evening, with Chelsea pair Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner on the scoresheet.
“Our flight home has been diverted to Edinburgh in order to carry out a precautionary safety inspection on the plane,” the official Germany Twitter account said on Thursday morning.
“Everyone is fine and patiently waiting while the staff go about their business calmly and professionally.
“A replacement plane is now en route to Edinburgh to bring the players, coaches, staff and the DFB delegation back to Germany.”
There were also goals for Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane in a comfortable win for Hansi Flick’s side in World Cup qualifying.
Germany now top Group J by four points from Armenia and have won all three of their games since Flick succeeded Joachim Löw after Euro 2020.
“Our goal was to win the three games, and we achieved that. We have taken a step forward,” Flick said after the victory.
“We’re not at 100 per cent yet, but the team is on the right track. The guys are implementing things the way we imagine.”
