Guus Hiddink snubs Manchester City approach

11 April 2012

Guus Hiddink has rejected an approach from Manchester City, the Dutchman's agent has claimed.

There has been speculation over the Russia manager's future after his team lost to Slovenia in the World up play-offs last month.

Hiddink has been linked with Chelsea in a behind-the-scenes role, having enjoyed success there last season as interim manager following the sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari.

But Cees van Nieuwenhuizen has revealed that his client was contacted by City chief executive Garry Cook.

"Yes, I did speak to Garry. But Guus is happy with Russia. Definitely," said Van Nieuwenhuizen.

Van Nieuwenhuizen is not aware whether Cook wanted to discuss the possibility of Cook succeeding manager Mark Hughes or being installed alongside the Welshman.

"I don't know because I said it was not worth discussing it because Guus was happy," he told the Daily Telegraph. "I had a call because I have been working with Garry for 12 years since we worked together at Nike.

"Garry asked me if it would be worthwhile having a meeting to discuss the future and what might happen next summer. There is an offer for Guus to stay for two more years, and I think he will stay."

Although City are still in contention for a top-four place they have been erratic this season with a 3-0 defeat at Tottenham on Wednesday putting more pressure on Hughes.
