Hugo Lloris jumps to defence of Tottenham

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris believes his side’s superior defence was the deciding factor in Sunday’s victory over Arsenal.

Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson produced commanding performances at the back while Arsenal’s defensive frailties were exposed for both Tottenham goals in the 2-1 win at White Hart Lane.

“All the players put in a great performance but maybe the difference [between the teams] was the defensive work and it’s good for the rest of the season,” Lloris said.

“We felt the importance of the game on the pitch. The atmosphere was fantastic when we scored the first and second goals. The stadium was on fire.”
