Gareth Southgate's waistcoats were one of the highlights of the World Cup - so much so that waistcoat sales skyrocketed after the England manager sported the garment in Russia.

But the 44-year-old was outdone by Idris Elba during the Fifa Best awards in London on Monday evening.

The actor, who was chosen to present the awards by Fifa, dressed in bizarre waistcoat which had images of Gareth Southgate imprinted all over it.

Elba, who was criticised on social media after delivering a forgettable performance which included forgetting lines and mispronouncing names, brought up the topic when on stage with Southgate.

The waistcoat proved a hit with the crowd but not so much with the England coach, as The Wire star Elba joked: "Southgate wasn't a fan of it."

Southgate was chosen to present the Women's Best coach award which went to Reynald Pedros.

Luka Modric won the Best Men's player of the year, beating Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo, while Didier Deschamps pipped Zinedine Zidane and Zlatko Dalic to the men's Best Coach award.
