Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from England’s opening Euro 2016 qualifier away to Switzerland.

England got off to the best possible start in their bid to qualify for Euro 2016, with a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in Basel.

Two second half goals from new Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck proved enough as Roy Hodgson's side punished a lacklustre Swiss side on the break with two clinical counter-attacks.

His brace represented his first international goals for over a year, having not scored since England's 3-2 victory over Scotland back in August 2013.

But it was far from being the Danny Welbeck show in a match where Hodgson's England demonstrated so real defensive grit, while Raheem Sterling continued his impressive start to his international career.
