'It might be in Liverpool's interests to send Victor Moses back to Chelsea' - John Aldridge

Loan move: Victor Moses also had a spell at Liverpool last season

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has urged Victor Moses to buck up his ideas or risk having his season-long loan move from Chelsea terminated.

Moses completed his summer switch to Merseyside on transfer deadline day and scored on his debut to hand the Reds a first-half lead against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in mid-September.

But the 23-year-old has made just one Premier League start since he played the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on October 19 and Aldridge was left underwhelmed when the midfielder was handed an opportunity to impress in Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Oldham.

Brendan Rodgers sacrificed Moses at half-time in the third round tie and the Liverpool legend has since been critical of his apparent lack of appetite to succeed.

“I don’t know whether Chelsea would agree to take him back as they’ve got a big squad but it might be in everyone’s best interests if the loan is cancelled,” Aldridge said in an article for the Liverpool Echo.

“If Moses wants to stay at Liverpool until the end of the season then he needs to buck his ideas up. He’s in a precarious position.

“The Nigeria international could have no complaints about being hauled off at half-time of Sunday’s 2-0 win over Oldham.

“He looked completely disinterested in that opening 45 minutes and gave the manager little option.

“There was no desire, no spirit. Maybe he’s lacking a bit of confidence or maybe he’s just unhappy because he’s played so little recently.

“When Moses arrived I thought he would be a decent acquisition. He talked about wanting to nail down a place at Anfield but to achieve that you need to deliver on the pitch and he hasn’t done that. He has let himself down.”

Aldridge added that Rodgers may have had better luck promoting internal talent rather than acquiring the Blues’ midfielder until the end of the season.

He continued: “Hindsight is a great thing but we would have been better off keeping Oussama Assaidi and not signing Moses. Assaidi has contributed a lot more for Stoke during his loan spell than Moses has for us.”
