Jermain Defoe could quit Spurs

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe says he could quit the club if he doesn't play regular first-team football.

The England marksman found himself on the substitute's bench for the majority of the last campaign but still managed to finish with 17 goals.

"Last season was heartbreaking for me in terms of putting my body on the line, being prepared to give everything for the club and not getting a game", Defoe told the Mirror.

"Obviously I have to think seriously about my future. I will talk to the club and see what happens but right now all I want to do is what is best for Tottenham."

Defoe's place at White Hart Lane could be under threat as new manager Andre Villas-Boas seeks to put his stamp on the squad.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao while they are still working to tie up a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor after his successful loan spell at the club last season.
