Jermain Defoe shows exactly why he needs a PA

Jermain feels the pain: The Sunderland striker is not enjoying his shopping

Jermain Defoe has provided the perfect riposte to those who criticised him for hiring a new executive personal assistant.

The Sunderland striker tweeted a picture of himself out doing food shopping and it’s hard to imagine anyone ever looking so sad in a Waitrose. David Cameron would be shocked.

The 32-year-old last month advertised for a personal assistant to help with everything from the weekly shop to building Brand Defoe. Additional responsibilities include “travelling with Jermain/Sandra on business meeting”, arranging Bonfire Night festivities and, of course, “starting up his own Sports Mentoring and Management company”.

With a trolley packed full of healthy fruit and vegetables we can at least be sure that Defoe doesn’t need his new employee to tell him what food to eat.

Photographed near the fish aisle the striker could well be supplementing his broccoli and baby gem lettuce with a salmon fillet or some cod.

Indeed with Defoe so perfectly carrying out some of his key duties, including maintenance of the Adidas brand relationship, one might well ask whether the Sunderland striker needs any personal assistance.

But with that look of disappointment on his face maybe it’s only right that the former West Ham and Tottenham striker finds someone else to take on these tiresome grocery duties.

The job is no longer open online; we wish those who have applied the best of luck.
