John Terry: I want to stay at Chelsea but nothing's changed over my contract

End of an era: Terry still expects to leave Chelsea

John Terry still expects to depart Chelsea but has admitted he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The club captain last week announced that Chelsea had told him they would not offer a new contract, with Terry confirming that he would therefore move on at the end of the season.

Chelsea have since suggested that they wish to keep the possibility of renewing the 35-year-old’s deal open but are not expected to make any decisions until a new manager is in place.

In his first game at Stamford Bridge since his revelation Terry was met with adulation from supporters, who have campaigned to convince Chelsea to offer the 'one-club' defender another contract.

Terry admitted that he had been touched by fans’ support of him but warned nothing has changed in the past week that would offer hope to those who want to see him in a Chelsea shirt next season.

“It’s a difficult one,” he told Sky Sports. “The club is the most important thing but there’s no communication at the moment.

“I said what I had to say, that’s how it is.

“I've made it very clear I want to stay, but more important is getting up to where we should be in the table.”

Once more Terry found himself at the centre of a controversial incident in a major game, with the centre-back denied a penalty late in the first half after his volley hit Daley Blind’s arm.

And whilst he said that if he had been in Blind’s place he would have pleaded for lenience Terry claimed Michael Oliver had made a mistake.

“It was going in I think,” he said. “It's difficult for the ref but inside the box? Going in? For me it’s got to be a penalty.”
