Jurgen Klopp insisted it was not a case of two points dropped after Liverpool were held to a chaotic derby draw with Manchester United.

The Reds led through Luis Diaz but missed several chances before being pegged back by stunning strikes by Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

“We had big chances before and after they scored,” he told Sky Sports.

“That’s now the situation. It’s a point at Manchester United, I know people see it as two points lost.

“I see it as we have a point more than we had before the game. It’s an away game at Manchester United, I think for us this game is more special than for other teams because against us they put an extra shift in. That’s how it is.

“We’ll face that again in a week at Everton, these are the games we have to be ready for. We fully deserved the equaliser, that’s it.”

Liverpool fired off 28 shots on Sunday afternoon, many of which before United had any of their own - with the hosts’ first coming early in the second half when Fernandes took advantage of Jarell Quansah’s sloppy pass to lob the goalkeeper from 40 yards.

Klopp was adamant that his side should have won having created so many chances, but refused to criticise his players further ahead of a Europa League clash with Atalanta in midweek.

“I'm not over the moon,” he continued. “But you take what you can get, that's what we got today. If we'd have been a bit more clinical than of course we can win here.”
