Sevilla appoint former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui on three-year deal

Sevilla have appointed former Real Madrid and Spain boss Julen Lopetegui as their new coach.

Lopetegui, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Los Blancos at the end of October, has agreed a three-year deal with the Andalusian club.

"Sevilla FC and Julen Lopetegui Argote have reached an agreement for the 53-year-old coach to take charge of the Nervión club for the next three seasons," Sevilla said on their website.

The Basque coach will arrive in Seville on Tuesday and is to be unveiled to the media on Wednesday.

Lopetegui lasted only four and a half months at Real Madrid, losing his job following a 5-1 Clasico defeat away to Barcelona.

The 53-year-old had arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu amid much controversy, with his appointment announced on the eve of the World Cup, which subsequently saw him dismissed by Spain ahead of the tournament in Russia.

He will replace Joaquin Caparros, who is expected to take up a youth-team role at Sevilla, and is Monchi's first signing as coach since the sporting director returned to the club earlier this year.
