Liverpool could announce the signing of Adam Lallana as early as next week after agreeing a £25m fee for the England playmaker.

The 26 year-old has been a primary target for Reds manager Brendan Rodgers as he seeks to strengthen his side which qualified for the Champions League last season.

Liverpool made an offer for the player before the World Cup reported at around £25m but Southampton declined, putting any move on hold while he was in Brazil.

But with the player returning from the World Cup on Wednesday, Liverpool have held further talks with the South coast club eventually agreeing on a fee of £25m plus various performance related add ons.

Standard Sport understands that Liverpool could confirm the deal and unveil Lallana as early as next week along with £9m Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.

Lallana is expected to have a medical at Liverpool's Melwood complex later today.

Liverpool have already signed another Southampton and England player this summer, capturing striker Rickie Lambert for £4m.

It comes as Manchester United closed in on the £30m signing of Luke Shaw. The Southampton left back 'confirmed' he had joined the club on his twitter account.
