Jose Mourinho believes both Chelsea and Spain will benefit from the latter's decision not to pick Diego Costa for international duty.

Spain have left Costa, who has been struggling with a variety of injuries over the past two months, out of their forthcoming games against Belarus and Germany.

The 26-year-old is going to start Chelsea's match at Liverpool tomorrow, but will then be given time to fully recover from his problems.

Mourinho, who has moaned about Spain's treatment of Costa for weeks, insists he had nothing to do with their decision.

He said: "In the international break he can rest and work. It is fantastic news for us. I thank the Spain FA for the decision that they made.

"I want to make it clear I did nothing to make it happen. He was protected for the Champions League match in Maribor (he started on the bench), but because the result was not good, I couldn't protect him any more and had to play him for 45.

"But as a consequence of the work we're doing with him, he can start tomorrow. The plans after are to immediately have complete rest, no training, no treatment, no massacre on his muscle. just let him rest for a few days and then continue specific work without a match to play.

"It is very good news for him, for us and also good for the national team to have a good Diego, not a so-so Diego."

Chelsea have also been boosted by the news that Loic Remy (groin) has also returned to training, John Obi Mikel (knee) has recovered and Cesar Azpilicueta is back from suspension.
