Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum admits his side’s second-half collapse against Sevilla is “not a good sign” ahead of Saturday’s visit of Chelsea.

At half-time in their Champions League tie at the Roman Sanchez Pizjuan Liverpool led 3-0 thanks to a Roberto Firmino brace and Sadio Mane’s goal.

But a woeful defensive display coupled with the renewed vigour of their hosts saw Liverpool throw away two points that would have guaranteed their passage to the knockout rounds.

It was, Wijnaldum admitted, an ill omen for their upcoming Premier League game against Chelsea, who have Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in top form as they prepare to travel to Anfield.

“We were really ruthless in the first half and if you are 3-0 ahead against Sevilla away you have to play smarter,” the Dutch international told LFC TV.

“I don't think it is a bad result to get a draw in Seville but the way we gave it up I don't think is a good sign.

“It is painful when you look back at the game but we have to go again Saturday.

“We have to speak with each other, lift each other up, put this behind us and concentrate on Chelsea.”
