How will Man City line up against Brighton? John Stones to return after injury

1/21

John Stones and Benjamin Mendy are back in training ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Brighton on Saturday.

Stones has recovered from a thigh injury – but is being assessed by City’s medical department before a decision is made on whether he can play a part in the game at the Etihad.

Mendy’s comeback is expected to be left until after the international break, with no risks being taken following his latest knee injury.

With Gabriel Jesus out with a hamstring injury, Sergio Aguero will lead City’s attack, but Pep Guardiola has no further fitness issues aside from long-term absentee Leroy Sane.

Brazil international Fernandinho could make his first start of the season, with both Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan deputising in the holding role so far.

Joao Cancelo, meanwhile, got his first taste of action as a late substitute against Bournemouth and will be in contention to start if Guardiola wants to freshen up his side.

Predicted lineup

Predicted Man City XI [4-3-3]: Ederson, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Davild Silva; Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling
