Man Utd star Marcus Rashford has 'no problem' with Paul Pogba taking controversial penalty in Wolves draw

Marcus Rashford insists he had ‘no problem’ with Paul Pogba taking Manchester United’s second-half penalty against Wolves on Monday, despite the Frenchman missing the crucial spot kick.

Rashford had scored from the spot in last Sunday’s 4-0 thumping of Chelsea at Old Trafford, and so might have been expected to step up when Pogba was fouled, with the scores level at 1-1.

Instead, it was Pogba himself who took responsibility, only to see his rasping effort pushed away by Wolves stopper Rui Patricio.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed afterwards that United operate with a two-taker system, with Pogba and Rashford left to decide between themselves who takes charge.

And Rashford, who has scored every penalty he has ever taken in senior football, including in a World Cup shoot-out against Columbia, and in the final minute of last season’s Champions League knockout win over PSG, said he bore no ill-feeling.

“Paul wanted to take it, it’s that simple,” he told Sky Sports. "Everybody can miss a penalty. He's scored countless penalties for us so it's normal to miss one.

"It's simple, if you want to take it, you take it. I took one last week so for me it's no problem for him to take one this week.

“It's unfortunate he didn't score but it's not on him, it's as a team and we take it forward to the next game."
