Man Utd striker Romelu Lukaku ready to leave Old Trafford after hearing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans

Exit looming? Romelu Lukaku will have to play second fiddle to Marcus Rashford if he stays at Old Trafford

Romelu Lukaku has given the clearest indication he wants to leave Manchester United after being told he will not be first-choice striker next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to build his attack around Marcus Rashford, with Lukaku set to be reduced to a back-up role.

United have not transfer-listed the Belgium international – but will accept a bid of £80million for the second-most expensive player in their history.

Antonio Conte wants to take Lukaku to Inter Milan after failing in a bid to sign him for Chelsea in 2017.

The 26-year-old opted for a £75m move to United from Everton instead – with the price potentially rising to £90m.

Old Trafford’s hierarchy have to decide whether to cash in now – or risk seeing his value plummet after a season on the sidelines.

They believe they can still demand top money for the striker this summer – and he only enhanced his reputation with two goals in Belgium’s 3-0 win against Scotland on Tuesday night.

Lukaku said afterwards: “I’ll speak with my club and my agent Federico Pastorello to make the best decision.

“I am going to enjoy my holidays with my family now. I know what I’ll do, but won’t say it. We’ll see. Do I expect a busy summer? Yes.

“I’ve had a difficult season at club level. I lost my place and haven’t played much.

“But that is a phase in my career and it will help me for the next step.”

Solskjaer wants to make his attack more mobile, with Rashford leading a front three, which will also include Anthony Martial and new signing Daniel James.

It’s believed United have already watched potential replacements for Lukaku, including Lyon’s Moussa Dembele.
