Marcel's lost for words as Bees' barren run extends

Defender Marcel Eger today admitted he is mystified by Brentford's form after their winless League run was extended to five games.

Uwe Rosler's side should have notched only their third win at Griffin Park in eight League One games after dominating the play against Stevenage.

But they failed to score for the third home match in a row and left the field to a chorus of boos.

Eger, 28, said: "I don't know what's going on. It's hard to find words after such a defeat. The crowd have the right to be disappointed because they expect us to win, especially at home.

"We did almost everything right. We fought, we tried to get crosses in, but the last pass, or the finish was not perfect. We cannot always have a clean sheet so you get punished.

"I can't understand this run but the gaffer will find a way to get better results and, once we get going, things will be easier."

Brentford had the lion's share of possession, territory and attempts but were unable to find a way through a well-organised Stevenage side. They were punished when Chris Beardsley pounced on a loose ball and applied a finish which leaves the Bees 11th in the table.

Eger has made steady progress since being signed by German compatriot Rosler over the summer from FC St Pauli, who were relegated from the Bundesliga, and praised the work his manager had done to help him adjust to life in the capital.

"He was a very experienced player with [Manchester] City," he said. "He knows the way to convert your game and the way to live when moving from Germany to England.

"We talk English when we speak to each other, only rarely German. He has helped me take my first steps to living in England.

"I'm loving living in London. I like getting round by tube. I am coping with the English way of playing.

"It is different to the Bundesliga, you have less time and as a defender they press you and you have to be sharp. I've settled down but I can improve and I'm looking forward to doing that with this team."
