Mark Hughes is keen on misfit Craig Bellamy

Familiar: Mark Hughes will step up his interest in Craig Bellamy

Fulham manager Mark Hughes will step up his interest in Craig Bellamy after Manchester City

Bellamy has also been left out of City's initial Europa League squad and Hughes said: "Craig Bellamy was arguably one of the top players in the Premier League last year and we would be very interested in a deal. The way the situation is falling it seems Manchester City won't be using him in the Premier League so Craig has to make the right decision for his career."

Hughes, meanwhile, is adamant Mark Schwarzer will not be allowed to leave for Arsenal unless the Gunners increase the £2million bid they made in May for the keeper.

"Our position with Mark hasn't changed," the manager said. "Arsenal made a bid that was refused and there have been no further bids. Mark sees it as an opportunity at this stage of his career but I have to protect the interest of Fulham football club."

Moussa Dembele should become Hughes's first major signing today when he completes a £5m move from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

The striker, 23, has won 18 caps for Belgium and Hughes said: "We're hoping to have the boy in London today for a medical."

The manager has also confirmed that former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos could be out for up to eight months after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
