Mohamed Elneny’s impressive start to his Arsenal career has been rewarded after supporters voted him the club’s player of the month for March.
The midfielder, Arsenal’s only signing in the January transfer window in a £7million deal from Basel, was eased into action by Arsene Wenger in his first weeks at the club, only appearing in the FA Cup until late February.
Having appeared off the bench against Manchester United at the end of February Elneny made his first Premier League start in the pressure cooker environment of a north London derby at White Hart Lane.
It was the start of a string of impressive displays for the 23-year-old, who showed real composure in a 2-2 draw where his fellow midfielder Francis Coquelin lost his head and earned a calamitous red card.
Elneny has started every game since and rarely disappointed, most notably in the Nou Camp where his first goal in an Arsenal shirt was one of the brightest moments in a frustrating 3-1 defeat that saw the Gunners crash out of Champions League at the round of 16 again.
Arsenal’s first Egyptian player has impressed supporters at his new club and is delighted by the opportunities he has received in his first months in the Premier League.
“Arsenal is one of the best teams in the world, I feel so happy because the boss and my team-mates trust in me,” he said after victory over Everton in his last Premier League appearance.
Danny Welbeck was voted second in the player of the month poll whilst Mesut Ozil, winner of the award in October, November, December and February, was in third.
