Newcastle United shocked Liverpool at St. James' Park this afternoon to move up to 18th place in the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory.

Jurgen Klopp's side were installed as clear favourites prior to kick-off by virtue of their emphatic win against Southampton in midweek, but struggled to reproduced their swashbuckling attacking display on Tyneside.

The goal heroes from midweek - Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi - had to settle for places on the substitutes bench with Christian Benteke preferred up front for the Reds.

But the big Belgian, who was fielded just ahead of Roberto Firmino, failed to spark into life and while the visitors controlled possession for long periods it was the Toon Army who enjoyed the better chances.

The deadlock was finally broken in the second half by Georginio Wijnaldum, whose strike cannoned in off of Martin Skrtel, and into the back of the net to send the home crowd into raptures.

Klopp threw several attackers on in an effort to rescue a point by Wijnaldum claimed his second goal of the afternoon with a delicate chipped finish in stoppage time.

But who stood out in regards to their individual display and who had a day to forget?
