Jose Fonte has taken to Instagram to assure supporters Southampton are working hard to change their run of rotten luck.
The Saints lost 2-1 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium after referee Robert Madley awarded a late penalty to the Gunners following a tussle between Fonte and Olivier Giroud.
Santi Cazorla stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick as Arsenal completed a comeback victory and closed back to within five points of early pace-setters Manchester City.
Fonte, who was targeted by Arsenal during the summer transfer window, was holding Giroud's shirt during the late incident but the contact was slight and Southampton boss Claude Puel was left angered by the call.
And Fonte addressed the incident on social media after the game.
“Just want to say thank you for the support and also for every fan that came to the game today," he wrote.
"No one more then me feels hard done by and disappointed, you can feel the same but not more then me!
"When Giroud asks me who gave the penalty away that says it all, if you haven’t watched the game and come to criticise please save me that!
