Former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Schwarzer was on punditry duty on Match of the Day and said the Gunners were kept in Saturday's goalless draw with Boro by his former Chelsea team-mate.

Arsenal were frustrated by Aitor Karanka's side despite heading into the clash on a run of seven straight victories - a sequence which saw them score 23 goals.

Arsene Wenger's men had chances to win the game, but a string of fine saves from Cech denied Boro snatching an unlikely victory at the other end.

The pick of his stops came when the former Czech international denied Adama Traoré from a tight angle before blocking Alvaro Negredo's follow-up.

And despite impressive weeks for both Hugo Lloris and David De Gea, Schawarzer believes Cech is the top flight's best goalkeeper.

“You expected Petr Cech to have a quieter game,” the Australian said.

“But he was the busier of the two.

"For me Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and probably has been for the last few years."

He added: “He really kept them in the match, which is quite strange, because nobody give Middlesbrough a chance.”
