Real Madrid have been drawn against Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen in Group G as they kick off the defence of their Champions League crown.

The Spanish side have won the competition 13 times in their history, claiming four out of the past five trophies and three in a row under Zinedine Zidane.

The French coach left the club this summer, along with Cristiano Ronaldo. Nevertheless, Madrid will be big favourites to advance as group winners as they aim to make it four titles in a row by winning this season’s competition, with the final to be played at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1.

“It's going to be difficult to win for the fourth time because every team wants to beat us but we'll try out best,” Luka Modric said after he was named as the Uefa's best men's player from last season’s competition.
