Real Madrid to test Tottenham with £60m-plus bid for Gareth Bale

Real Madrid will stage a last-ditch bid to tempt Gareth Bale to join the Bernabeu next season.

Standard Sport revealed last week that Bale is staying at Tottenham for one more season and is set to confirm a new deal worth £130,000 a week.

But Real president Florentino Perez is under pressure to secure a marquee signing as part of his re-election campaign, especially after losing out to Barcelona over a £50million deal for Santos and Brazil forward Neymar.

Spurs are adamant the Wales international is not for sale at any price but Real are prepared to offer in excess of £60m for his signature.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has been contacted by Spanish newspaper Marca and claimed Bale is “honoured” by their interest.

However, he also admitted that the winger is not able to negotiate with Real because no transfer has been agreed with Spurs. Barnett said: “If Florentino Perez is interested in Gareth Bale, it would be an honour and we would listen. But his contract is with Tottenham. We are not free to talk to anyone yet.

“Bale is better than Neymar. He’s proved himself in the best league in the world. I would hope that any club who wants him, wants him not because they lost Neymar.

“I would think he’d have to be their first choice. Whatever Neymar cost, Gareth is worth more.”
