Robin van Persie is on fire, says Arsene Wenger

Hat-trick hero: Robin van Persie salutes the travelling Arsenal fans

Arsene Wenger hailed "on fire" Robin van Persie after his hat-trick helped Arsenal win a thriller with Chelsea.

The Gunners eventually emerged from a see-saw battle at Stamford Bridge with a 5-3 victory, thanks in no small part to the Holland striker's 10th, 11th and 12th goals of the season.

Van Persie has played a key part in turning Arsenal's form around following their 8-2 drubbing at Manchester United, and Wenger is aware of how good his captain is.

"He is on fire," manager Wenger said.

"He takes advantage from his class, plus the fact we attack a lot and that we create chances.

"Overall the intelligence of his movement around the box and the accuracy of his finishing is exceptional."
