Romelu Lukaku: Jose Mourinho has already made me a better player at Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku believes Jose Mourinho has already made him a better player despite only having worked with the Portuguese tactician again for 10 days.

It proved a surprising move for Lukaku as he was let go by Mourinho at Chelsea in 2014, but the Belgian star repaid the now-United manager's faith in his abilities by scoring the winner in the Red Devils' pre-season game against Real Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Despite only linking back up with Mourinho last Monday, Lukaku believes he has already developed into a better player under the watchful eye of the United boss and expressed his joy at having signed for the club.

"He knows what I can bring to the team and he’s someone who is pushing me. I push myself too but he makes me a better player. I think I learned a lot from him in the last week and I’m glad I can work with him," the 24-year-old said.

"I’m happy for my goal. There is still a lot of work to do; as a team we know we need to be much better.

"But I’m glad I’m here because you really see it’s a big club and that was the challenge I wanted.”

He added on his move from Everton: "I am very happy now. This is the job I wanted. I have to make sure that I stay focused and have the same ambition I’ve always had. And just work hard – that’s the key to success."
