The agent who set up the meeting which prompted Sam Allardyce's departure from his role as England manager says the situation 'kills him'.

Allardyce lost his job as Three Lions boss last month after twice joining long-term friend from his playing days Scott McGarvey to meet undercover Telegraph reporters posing as Far East businessmen.

McGarvey had been lured by the false promise of a post with a new football agency, including a six-figure annual salary and a brand new Ranger Rover.

But Secretly-filmed footage obtained from the meeting appeared to show Allardyce advising on how to sidestep transfer laws and the England boss was ultimately relieved of his duties after the newspaper sting emerged.

"It kills me. It’s the worst feeling in the world. I’ve got my own situation, but the real travesty is Sam," McGarvey told The Times.

"If he had lost his job at Crewe Alexandra, I would be gutted for him. But he’s lost his job as England manager, the job he built himself up for. For Sam to lose that job, because of this, honestly, it kills me. Kills me."

McGarvey and Allardyce have only spoken through a third party since.
