Southampton striker Graziano Pelle hints at Serie A return

Italy and Southampton striker Graziano Pelle has hinted that he is considering a return to Serie A in the future.

The 30-year-old joined Ronald Koeman's side from Feyenoord last summer and has scored 18 goals in 50 Premier League appearances for the Saints.

Pelle's performances in England have caught the eye of the Italian national team and he is currently on international duty in his homeland, which he has admitted to pining for.

“My contract with Southampton expires in 18 months, one year after Euro 2016.

“Italy is the most beautiful country and it is that beauty which I am missing," he conceded.

“Nostalgia is always there with Italy and I’m nostalgic.

"Of course, I’m happy in England right now, but only time will tell.”

Serie A was previously the most powerful division on the continent but has fallen behind England's top tier, La Liga and Bundesliga in recent years.

However, Pelle has been encouraged by the recent performances of Italian clubs and believes they will soon be reclaim their place among the world's best.

“Serie A has had a fall recently, but now it is showing growth again.

“Juventus’ showings in the Champions League and the others teams in the Europa League have lifted it.

“Within a few years, Serie A will again be among one of the best leagues in the world."
