Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Liverpool's 1-0 win over Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

Jack Butland: A quiet afternoon may explain his poor reactions in dealing with Coutinho's late intervention. 5/10

Glen Johnson: A disappointing debut could have been so different had he scored the game's best chance in the first half. 5

Geoff Cameron: Did well to keep Benteke under wraps for long periods and deserved a clean sheet. 6

Marc Muniesa: Performed admirably enough at both centre-half in the first half and when moved to left-back in the second. 6

Erik Pieters: Failed to recover from an early knock and was substituted at half-time. 5

Marco Van Ginkel: Showed an impressive willingness to get forward from midfield. 6

Glenn Whelan: A steady if unspectacular presence in the middle of the park. 5

Jonathan Walters: Utilised his experience in his battle down the flank with young Gomez. 6

Charlie Adam: His teasing set-pieces carried Stoke's biggest threat. 6

Ibrahim Afellay: An early yellow card was as involved as the debutant got. 5

Mame Biram Diouf: Failed to reproduce the heroics of this corresponding fixture last season. 5

Simon Mignolet: Rarely troubled on the ground he conceded six at just seven weeks ago. 6/10

Nathaniel Clyne: His last-gasp defending denied Diouf a clear sight of goal moments before Coutinho's winner. 6

Joe Gomez: Fielded in an unnatural position, he coped well with Walters. 6

Dejan Lovren: A much better performance from the much-maligned defender. 7

Martin Skrtel: Often cumbersome, the defender was reliant on his partner for the clean sheet. 5

Jordan Henderson: The new Liverpool captain's deliveries were uncharacteristically poor. 5

James Milner: Perhaps tried too hard on his Liverpool debut but still picked out some exquisite passes. 6

Jordon Ibe: The teenager's neat trickery occasionally livened up a dull affair before his removal. 6

Philippe Coutinho: The match-winner was anonymous for long periods, but produced the game's one moment of brilliance when a stalemate looked certain. 7

Adam Lallana: A quiet afternoon for the former Southampton man saw him withdrawn just after the hour mark. 5

Christian Benteke: Struggled to make an impression on his own up front. 5
