On target: Sanchez sends Arsenal to the Champions League proper
Standard Sport10 September 2014

Theo Walcott is relishing the opportunity to play in the Premier League's 'fastest forward line' as he closes in on a return to Arsenal's first-team squad.

The England international believes the signings of Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez will inject more lethal pace into Arsene Wenger's side and he is looking forward to playing alongside the new additions.

Sanchez scored the decisive goal against Besiktas in the Champions League qualifiers last month, while Welbeck is yet to pull on a Gunners shirt- but showed his class with a brace for England on Monday.

Trio Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina also arrived at Emirates Stadium over the summer and Walcott expects the new arrivals to propel Arsenal to new heights.

"I hope we'll have the fastest forward line in the Premier League. It's exciting times," he told The Daily Mirror. "It will hopefully put Arsenal where we should be – winning trophies.

"They will fit the bill perfectly. Alexis has settled in very quickly. Danny is a hard worker. He always puts his heart on the line.

"At times, I thought he needed to be a bit more selfish so I was very happy on Monday night. It's the one thing he has changed and he will get more goals now unless he sees me in a good position, of course.

"When you see the amount of money that has been spent. It has been well documented over the years that we haven't spent as much but Arsenal are doing it the right way and spending it wisely."

While Welbeck and Sanchez will bring a renewed speed to the final third, Walcott has lost his title as the club's fastest player.

The former Southampton man ran 40 metres in 4.72 seconds to snatch the record from Thierry Henry, but Spanish youngster Hector Bellerin went a hundredth of a second quicker last month.

Walcott, however, expects to return from injury faster, adding: “I hope to be quicker, definitely. I’ve been working very hard. You’ve got to look at these injuries as a bit of a blessing at times.

I’ve never had the opportunity to work on the strength in my legs and with that I think hopefully I should be quicker and stronger. So that’s what I’m looking forward to.
